What is HENNA ?
Henna or Hina (Lawsonia inermis, Syn.L.alba) is a flowering plant, the word “henna” comes from the Arabic name for the plant.
It is a tall shrub or small tree, 2-6m high, it is grabrous, multi-branched with spine tipped branchlets.
Henna flowers have four sepals and it produces a burgundy dye molecule.
This molecule has an affinity for bonding with protein, and thus has been used to dye hair, skin, fingernails, leathers, silk and wool.
Henna has been used for hair dye and body art since the Bronze Age.
It is commercially cultivated in Pakistan, Morocco, Yeman, Iran, Afghanistan, Somalia, Sudan, Libya, Egypt but presently INDIA is producing the finest quality of henna.
